What's up with Disney

Why are the moms in Disney films always dead?  There are a few exceptions, but seriously.  I believe that it may drive the story in some "I need to be like her, avenge her, sorrow for her, etc" kind of way, but dang.  Disney, quit it.  If you won't do it for me do it for the animals whose lives you've ruined.
